Tucker Power Company (WiffleATL)...................10-0
At the top of the heap of untouchable/undefeated teams is none other than Wiffle Atlanta's Tucker Power Company. At 10-0 they have seemingly dominated the 6-team league. The only other team above .500 is Wiffle House at 6-3...a team which Tucker Power Company has beaten once (opening day) and will face again this weekend. Unless Wiffle House can beat this team, I don't see any reason why Tucker Power Company cannot sail throughout the rest of the season without losing a game. But there's always that risk of a major upset loss at the hands of one of the other 4 teams in the league. Nevertheless, Tucker Power Company stands the greatest chance of any team in this article to finish their season undefeated.

Apaches (WCWBL).................................................. 7-0
Jimmy Galvan and his teammates have been bitch-slapping teams all year and it looks like the wins are only going to keep coming. The team enjoyed being league champions and winning the Thunderbowl last year. But in the midst of all their success the team's top ace Keith Matusek became upset with Jimmy Galvan and the team let Matusek go "despite him having a lifetime contract with the team." Apparently the two got over it and decided to open up a can of whoop-ass on their league in 2011. On May 31, Matusek threw his 400th strikeout and Jimmy Galvan won player of the month. The team is really making the best of such a great start but the Windy City Wiffle Ball League's season lasts until September 5th. Can the Apaches remain undefeated for two and a half more months?

MuckDogs (Backyard Wiffs)...................................7-0
These guys hit the ball! That's why they win games...period. Mike Schultz and Dan O'Brien have a team batting average of .306 with 13 HRs and 18 RBIs. Mike Schultz stands head and shoulders above the rest of the league in terms of hitting. A .340 AVG with 9 HRs, & 11 RBIs makes him the batter to strike out and he does...a lot, 24 times to be exact (the 4th most in the league). Dan O'Brien strikes out almost as much (23 Ks) and is in the middle of the pack in terms of batting performance (.263, 4 HRs, & 7 RBIs). Home Runs are winning the games for the MuckDogs but will they be able to win games should the frequency of dingers decrease? Perhaps. Mike Schultz is the 2nd best pitcher in the league right now with a 0.69 ERA...but that's if you measure a pitcher by his ERA. Schultz has the best win-loss record in the league by far, 7-0, and has struck out the most batters (65). So if the home run gods decide to frown upon the MuckDogs maybe their defense can hold out while they win games using via small ball. It should be interesting to see how it turns out for them.

Greenhouse Gassers (WMWA)............................6-0
Dave Bodendorf and Rusty Ficarra are on top of the standings looking down on the other teams. Why? Well they appear to have the right stuff. If you haven't noticed, the franchise has won 4 straight titles in the league and this year looks to be no exception. Between Bodendorf's ability at the plate (.354, 6 HRs, & 21 RBIs) and Ficarra's dominance on the mound (33 IP, 5-0, 0.27 ERA) there appears to be no stopping this team. But anything can happen. They can still win it all but be stripped of being undefeated by any of the other 9 teams in the league.

Oatka Quackers (WWL)............................................5-0
The Quackers are the only team in the Washburn Wiffleball League with a record above .500. Crazy, huh? In just 5 games the team is batting .507 with 12 HRs and 87 RBIs. Collectively, they've only struck out 29 times out of 162...pretty impressive. The team appears to be good at pitching too, seeing as to how they have the best team pitching stats in the league but when looking at those stats I noticed that they had a combined 8.69 ERA, which is pretty bad. A little digging revealed that there are a lot of runs that are scored in your average WWL game. The Quackers have scored 87 times and allowed 42 runs...keep in mind they're only 5 games into the season. Their games must be pure mayhem! Hell, just in their last game they won 22-3 against the Burnwash Bombers (the 2nd place team, mind you). Individually, there isn't a single player on the team with a batting average below .500. If this teams steps up the defense and continues to score the way they do the Oatka Quackers might just eliminate all morale in the WWL because they'd be impossible to beat.

Kingston Marlins (HVWBL)........................................4-0
Tim and Ryan McElrath (twin brothers) are names you become quite used to seeing on Hudson Valley WBL's website lately. The two brothers are really dictating the statistics in the HVWBL. Both of them are among the top 3 hitters in the league and Ryan allegedly has been clocked throwing 88 mph! Ryan McElrath no-hit the Yankees on May 29, striking out 14 of the 15 batters he faced. Tim McElrath is also pitching pretty good but not striking out as many guys (3). There are 4 other guys on the team but only two of them seem to be doing equally well as the McElrath brothers...Christopher Spinelli and Drew Van der Poel (wonder if it's the same guy who runs the Kingston Wiffleball League?). Keep your eyes on this team, they've got game and they might not go all the way through the season undefeated but I think they've got the goods to win it all this year unless the Giants can stop them.

630 All-Stars (WCWBL)..............................................4-0
Formerly known as the Aztecs (2007) and Downer's Grove Alcoholics (2009), the 630 All-Stars are a whole new team with the same players. Team captain, Derek Radek, was a beast during his rookie year in 2007. He won Rookie of the Year, MVP, HR King, and Strikeout King (pretty much all the important awards). That wasn't all, he was named July and August Player of the Month and led his team to a Thunderbowl championship. In 2008 he signed with the Orland Park Punishers and sweeps the Thunderbowl series with them. In 2009 he restarted the Aztecs franchise and renamed the team the Alcoholics but the team didn't do that well. In 2010 he signed with Dead Red but never played a single game. Jared Brown played for the Apaches last year but rarely showed. His .158 AVG was far from impressive compared to his .472 AVG in 2009. Radek and Brown (with Phil Svetich, Tony Dawson, & Matt Richardson) appear to have the right stuff right now but can they keep it going or will their franchise peter out?

Dead Red (WCWBL)...................................................3-0
Finishing 2010 with a 9-1 record, this team was a really strong regular season team in the Windy City Wiffleball Ball League. This year could be more of the same but, as with many leagues, the amount of games played is uneven throughout the standings and makes gauging a team tricky. I'm not sure what's going on with the team this year but I'm assuming they have the same crew as they did in 2010. Trevor Collie and Tim Jaros are the two main dudes on the team and they can do some damage at the plate. Collie was 20-66, .303 BA, HR, 21 RBIs; and Jaros was 38-75, .507 BA, 8 HR, and 47 RBIs. They both did all that in just 10 games played...which is great, but they only played 10 games. This year looks to be more of the same inconsistent appearances, which dramatically increases their odds of remaining undefeated in an unfair way.

Royal Flush (WMWA).............................3-0
Colin Chisholm, Josh Jensen, and Brian Donah make up WMWA's Royal Flush. Surprisingly, drilling home runs and making gigantic offensive rallies isn't what's responsible for the team's early success...it's pitching. Chisholm has a 0.00 ERA and a 1-0 record but has only pitched 6 innings, giving up a walk and I don't know how many strikeouts (an unavailable statistic). Josh Jensen has some good stuff on the mound too pitching, a 0.50 ERA and a 2-0 record. Giving up only one earned run on the season, Jensen struggles with control - walking 8 batters so far this year. If he gained control over the ball he might have had no earned runs. Yes, defense is what's winning games for the Royal Flush. They've outscored their opponents 12-1 so far this season. But can they keep this up all season. The site does not list a detailed schedule or have any box scores so it's impossible to tell just who the Royal Flush have played this year. But this team will eventually have to face reigning champions Greenhouse Gassers...a team that has dominated the league for 4 years. The Royal Flush will have to really bring the bats around of Gassers ace Rusty Ficarra if they want to remain undefeated or have a shot at the championship. Also looming unnoticed is the biggest threat to both teams... Chris Spring and the Scorpions. Spring is leading the league in home runs (10), triples (3), and RBIs (24); he's more than capable of putting large numbers on the board. So, in short, the odds are against Royal Flush.

Vipers (BWLPA)...............................2-0
The Backyard Wiffleball League of Pennsylvania just started their 8th season about 2 weeks ago and on top of the standings is a team called the Vipers. One thing I noticed right off the bat is that all 5 of their team members have played equal amounts of games, a rarity in most leagues. They've only played 2 games but have outscored their opponents 25-8. As a team they have a .604 AVG but what's surprising is they only have 1 home run between the 5 of them. There's also been only 1 strikeout and 1 double between all them. So this leads me to think that this is a slaphit team that wears out their opponents with a down-the-line hit here and an up-the-middle there that wears down the opposing team. Another factor to consider in all of this is that they've only played one team, the Job Squad (0-2), which hardly brings much merit to their accomplishments thus far in the league. The Vipers are not far enough into their season for me to tell whether or not they stand a chance to remain undefeated. But the team's true test will come this Sunday (June 26) when the Vipers face off against the Jagerbombs (last year's best team in the league). If the Vipers can beat them then they might not only stand a chance at being BWLPA champs but perhaps remaining undefeated as well.

Wiffle Warriors (Mick Fenway).................................2-0
Last year the Wiffle Warriors were a slightly below .500 team that had a very forgettable season. This year looks like it could be different for the Wiffle Warriors. The information on this team is sketchy. There's no batting or pitching statistics and all I have to go on is the box scores...which are crazy. In their first game against the Fenway Faithfuls they won 16-11 and in their second game against Bada Bing they won 1-0. Keep in mind they play 7 inning games! Although Wiffle Warriors are the only undefeated team in the league I don't necessarily thing they are the team to beat this year in the Mick Fenway Wiffleball League. Bada Bing is 3-1 and have played against 4 of the 5 other teams in the league and as those of you who play in leagues know - the more you play a team the more likely you are to find their Achilles Heel . So the only way I'll be convinced that the Wiffle Warriors have a shot at either going undefeated or winning it all this year is if they play a lot more games. They've defeated Bada Bing once but can they do it again?

Central Street Royals (Nawn's Lawn).......................................1-0
Perhaps the team that least deserves to be in this article in the Royals of Nawn's Lawn Wiffleball League. There is scarce information on them on the website but what really makes them the least deserving on the list is the fact that they really didn't win their one game, the other team gave up so many walks that they lost the game. The starting pitcher for the Nationals, Brad Johnson, threw a no-hitter into the 5th inning before being relieved after giving up 10 walks. The relieving pitcher gave up an additional 6 walks and before they knew it they lost a game that they would have otherwise had in the bag if they had a little more control over the ball. So the Royals aren't really untouchable...they were just on the receiving end of odd fortune. BUT they do have a nice logo if that counts for anything.

Honorable Mention - Trojans, Chimps, Scrubs, and Crusaders - The PWLSD Situation
Well if you hadn't noticed, the Pierre Wiffleball League season just started not that long ago. Leading the Dakota Division is the Trojans (2-0) with the Chimps right behind them (1-0). In the Oahe Division you'll find that the Scrubs and Crusaders are tied to first place in the division with 1-0 records each. Obviously there may only be one undefeated team when the season is all over but if that happens...which team will it be? History suggests the Trojans will have the best shot at remaining undefeated. In 2009 they finished the season 9-0 and in 2010 they finished with a 9-1 record. Very impressive! But they'd better not get their undefeated shirts printed just yet. They have some competition to deal with. The Chimps may not have one of the best records in the league but they can take a top team down from time to time and there's no reason to think that they can't this year. The Trojans are relatively new to the league and still have a lot to prove. I'm unsure if they have what it takes to take down the Scrubs, only time will tell. I don't believe the Crusaders will make it through the next couple of games undefeated, let alone the rest of the season. Another variable for consideration is Batbourne. They haven't played a game yet this season but have always been a great team. They have the 2nd best all-time record (15-5) and finished 1st in their division last year. But I'm not sure if Batbourne can handle the Scrubs. They lost 19-11 in the championship but who knows...maybe they will have what it takes this year to knock out the Scrubs.
