Neil Bowen |
| Wiffle Atlanta |
| The outstanding pitcher from the Wiffle Atlanta came on the scene in 2007 with a pinpoint mid-60s fastball, a nasty low 60s 2 seamer, a straight change up, and knee buckling curve ball that even now is stuff of WiffleATL legend. The Alabama native was a standout offensive guard at Jeff Davis High in Montgomery and at North Fulton High in Atlanta, GA, until serious knee injuries derailed his pro football aspirations. It was at the renowned Mableton Field that Neil honed his wiffle talents, in a highly skilled, but informal league during the late 1980's and 1990's that would produce other Wiffle ATL greats Blaine Milam, and Nathan Bowen. Neil won the “Smoltzy” award for pitcher of the year in 2007 and was a very close 2 nd for the award in 2008. His 121 strike outs in 70 innings in 2008 is second all-time in Wiffle Atlanta (Grant, 139 2007). Perhaps the most impressive stat Neil accumulated in his career is a lifetime WHIP of 1.00, an astounding number for the era in which he played. Neil was the smartest player in the league and his ability to set a defense according to which part of the strike zone he felt like pitching to has yet be matched in the WiffleATL. Neil brought an impeccable sense of sportsmanship and intelligence to the league. With his attention to mechanics and pitching theory Neil helped to make the Wiffle Atlanta the great culture of pitching that it is today. |
